Muñequitos de Matanzas

The Muñequitos de Matanzas, famous professional Cuban musical group of the rumba that has traveled the whole world. It is today a proud institution and bulwark of the National Culture. Considered by numerous specialists as one of the greatest and best exponents of the rumba in Cuba; with all the flavor and irresistible cadence of the Cuban rumba.

Among its founders were the famous Saldigueras, Virulilla, Catalino, Gallito, Pellado and Cacha, among others. Regardless of the national and community work they do, they teach percussion, singing and dance workshops at the University of Matanzas. In 2011 the renowned Cuban artists after almost a decade without appearing in New York, led by Professor Diosdado Ramos, completed a tour of more than a dozen cities in the United States, started on April 2 and classified as historical and successful. They performed at the Theater Workshop in New York with the show Homage to the Ancestors.

The Muñequitos de Matanzas are part of a living legend of African music in Cuba and remain attached to their Abakwa religion roots.
